Data Marketplace
Web App Design
This project involved creating a web-based app that allowed an organization to curate all the data in a Big Data system and make it available to all data engineers within the organization.
My role in the project was that of a lead designer and I was to produce a wireframe that would be used by developers to create an MVP.
The Challenge
Since this web app was going to be used by people whose primary purpose was to get work done as soon as possible with as few distractions as possible, the design of the site had to be such that it made it very simple for someone to come in and search for what he or she were looking for, and quickly get started with their work.
The web app was also required to allow the user to do a "check out" of data, so to speak, to allow them to take the data to their sandboxes and start playing with it.
The Process
To make the web app simple to use, I decided to go for a user experience that echoed what Google.com does. A simple search bar as soon as the user gets in, followed by a list of search results.
The search results would provide additional options like filtering and sorting to make it easier to find information. Each data set result showed 2 options, 1 to see additional details about the dataset, and the other to add it to a "cart" to check out in the future.
